Do not merge just because you can
A merge that leaves your line empty is a bad trade. Only combine units when you can afford the brief gap in coverage.

GAME OVERVIEW
Merge Defense combines the satisfaction of a merge puzzle with a lane defense. Units spawn on your side of the wall and can be dragged together to produce a stronger unit, so your economy is also your army.
That shared resource makes timing the core decision. Merging early gives you a tough unit sooner; merging late gives you a much stronger one but leaves the line thin in the meantime.
Placement matters as much as the merge itself. Strong units sitting behind weak ones waste their range, while a spread formation absorbs the early pushes without spending your best troop on the first contact.
HOW TO PLAY
A merge that leaves your line empty is a bad trade. Only combine units when you can afford the brief gap in coverage.
Your toughest unit should be the last thing the enemy reaches, not the first. Put fodder in front and elites behind it.
Enemies often leak around the obvious entry point. Keep at least one unit angled at each side so a single breach does not end the run.

FAQ
Combining two units of the same tier produces one unit of the next tier up. The cost is that both units are no longer on the field.
Not always. Merge when the gap in your line is covered, not simply because a pair is available.
